South Central held Altamont to just one hit while securing ten hits in a 10-0 shutout win for the Lady Cougars over the Lady Indians in National Trail Conference softball action on Tuesday. South Central opened the game’s scoring in the bottom of the first inning as an RBI single from Zoey Feldhake brought in two runs for a 2-0 lead. Altamont’s only hit of the game came in the top of the second as Adilynn Schnarre singled to center field but was stranded on base to end the half inning. The Lady Cougars offense for moving again in the bottom of the second as Kinlee Thompson singled with two outs to bring in a pair of runs and double the South Central led to 4-0. Lauren Johnson immediately followed that up with a single to left field for another run to edge the lead to 5-0. Another RBI single from Feldhake brought in one more run for a 6-0 lead at the end of the inning. After a scoreless third inning, South Central added on to their lead with an RBI triple from Johnson that brought Thompson around to score from first as the Lady Cougars lead grew to 7-0. Altamont went three up, three down for the second straight inning as they continued to trail 7-0 midway through the fifth inning. South Central struck early in the bottom of the fifth on a leadoff double from Feldhake and an RBI single from Emily Rose that scored Feldhake. A single from Annie Ruholl followed to score Rose to extend the Lady Cougars lead again to 9-0. With Addy Ruholl at third and Annie Ruholl at second, Maddie Peddicord drew a walk to load the bases and Amelia Montes also drew a walk to bring a run in and trigger the run rule as South Central went up 10-0 and closed out the win. South Central moves to 6-3 on the season and 2-1 in the NTC. They have another conference matchup on Thursday at Dieterich. Altamont drops to 1-8 on the season and 1-3 in the NTC and their next Varsity matchup will be Friday at home against Nokomis.
