SEB softball by four runs early but put together three straight one-run innings late and capped it off with three runs in the seventh for a 9-5 win over Martinsville in Egyptian Illini Conference action on Monday. The BlueStreaks took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but the Lady Eagles quickly responded with three runs on the top of the second inning scoring on a steal of home by Brooklyn Landrus and added two more runs as Martinsville committed an error on a Cami Haslett bunt that allowed Izzy Orr and Auni Wollin to score and pull SEB to within a run, trailing 4-3. Martinsville was able to extend their lead out to two runs scoring on a groundout in the bottom of the third inning to go up 5-3, but that was it for the BlueStreaks scoring in the game. SEB cut their deficit to one run again in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI double from C. Haslett and an inning later, tied the game up at 5-5 as Orr singled to left field and Macey Sapp scored on the throw. The Lady Eagles took their first lead of the game in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Kadence Speagle going up 6-5 and holding Martinsville scoreless for the third straight inning to hold that lead at the start of the seventh. SEB put together a rally with one out on back to back singles from Sap and Landrus who then both came home on a triple to left field by Orr, pushing the lead to 8-5 with two outs. A single to right field by C. Haslett drove in Wollin for SEB’s third run of the inning as their lead grew to 9-5 before an out ended the half inning. Martinsville then went three up, three down in the bottom of the seventh on two strikeouts and a ground out that sealed SEB’s 9-5 win. The Lady Eagles move to 4-3 on the season, having won their last three games in a row. They will be right back in action on the road again today as they play at Vandalia.
