CHBC softball couldn’t overcome seven fielding errors and were held to two runs on six hits in a 19-2 loss to Effingham on Thursday. Effingham grabbed an early lead with eight first inning runs and tacked on seven runs in the second inning as the Lady Bobcats trailed 15-0 to start the third inning. The Hearts added on t their lead with two more runs in the top of the third but CHBC finally broke up the potential shutout with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. After two quick outs, Harper Lilly singled and then advanced to second on an Effingham error. The next batter, senior Ryleigh Sarver then drove the third pitch of the at bat over the center field fence for a two-run home run as CHBC cut the Effingham lead to 17-2. The Bobcats put another two runners on base in the inning, but a ground out ended the scoring threat and the inning. The Hearts scored two more runs in the top of the fourth inning extending their lead to 19-2 but CHBC was unable to answer in the bottom half of the inning going three up, three down on a pop out and a pair of ground outs. CHBC drops to 0-4 on the season and will be at Dieterich today as they open National Trail Conference play.
