The South Central Cougars got their first win of the season on Wednesday afternoon, coming away with a 14-2 win over the Cisne Runnin’ Lions. Cisne would score two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead, but the Cougars would respond in the bottom of the second when Kaiden Harrell reached on an error and Colton Tockstein reached on a single. Two batters later, Aiden Hoover would single to score Harrell to cut the deficit to 2-1. Luke Shumate would give South Central the lead on a three-run homer, making it a 4-2 ballgame. South Central would add three more runs in the frame with Garrett Shumate reaching on an error to score Hudson Moore, and a pair of hits from Chase Guerrattaz and Ryker Dodson rounded out the scoring to give the Cougars a 7-2 lead. That score would hold until the bottom of the fourth inning when Aiden Strobel would single to score Shumate and Eli Hiestand to make the score 9-2. Six more runs would come across to score, highlighted by a single from Hoover, and a bases clearing double from Moore to cap off their second 7-run inning. Tockstein would strike out the side in the top of the fifth inning, securing the Cougars with the 14-2 victory. The win improves South Central to 1-1 on the season. South Central will be on the road Saturday afternoon, taking on Vandalia and Mater Dei.
