Lady Vandals Fall at Effingham


Vandalia softball was held to just one hit in a 17-0 loss on the road at Effingham on Tuesday. Bella Walk singled with one out in the top of the first inning but was stranded on base to end the half inning before Effingham took a 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the inning. Vandalia was able to get another baserunner in the second inning when Liah Hoyle drew a walk with one out but she was stranded on base. Effingham put nine runs across the plate in the bottom half of the inning to push their lead to 12-0. Ayla Evans led off the top of the third inning for the Lady Vandals with a walk but was thrown out at second when Arian Dunaway reached base on a fielder’s choice. Bella Walk then hit a line drive to center field with the fielder coming up throwing to third base to catch Dunaway advancing while Walk reached second base on the play but was stranded on base when a strikeout ended the half inning. Effingham again tacked on to their lead in the bottom half of the third inning with five runs as their lead was extended out to 17-0. The Lady Vandals went three up, three down in the top of the fourth as they suffered the 17-0 loss. Vandalia is now 0-4 on the season and will be back at home on Friday to take on Centralia.
