Altamont softball picked up their first win of the season in shutout fashion on Tuesday, beating North Clay 11-0 as they opened up National Trail Conference play at home. The Lady Indians kickstarted their offense with a three-run second inning taking advantage of a North Clay error on a bunt by Adilynn Schnarre to score their first run. Haley Arend hit a sacrifice fly to bring in another run and Avery Fleharty singled to score the third run of the inning as Altamont took their 3-0 lead. They doubled that lead in the third inning scoring on another North Clay error, on an RBI single from Sophia Long and on an infield fly ball that allowed Alyssa Ruholl to tag up and score from third base as the Lady Indians went up 6-0. Altamont put up a pair of runs in the fourth inning on an RBI double from Bella Swank and an RBI groundout from Laila Hankins and the Lady Indians lead pushed out to 8-0. After again holding the Cardinals scoreless in the top of the fifth inning, pinch hitter Samantha Durham singled to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning and then Schnarre came back in to run and was moved to second base on a single to centerfield by Jocelyn Pearcy. After a passed ball moved both runners into scoring position at second and third, Kennedi Schultz drove the 1-2 pitch over the left field fence for a no doubt three-run home run to put Altamont up 11-0 and trigger the 10-run rule and end the game. With the win, Altamont is 1-3 on the season and will be at home again on Thursday to host Greenville.
