South Central baseball hit the road to open their season on Monday and came up just short in a one run loss, 4-3, at Fairfield. After the Mules were able to score one run in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead, South Central put two runners on base with one out in the top of the third inning. Back to back RBI singles from Hudson Moore and Garrett Shumate brought both of those runners in and the Cougars were tied up 2-2 with Fairfield. That tie was short lived though as the Mules scored two runs on a home run in the bottom half of the inning and South Central trailed 4-2. Both teams went scoreless in the fourth inning before South Central was able to cut their deficit to just one run after an RBI single from Chase Guerrettaz brought in a run and made it 4-3. That would end up being the final run of the game as neither team was able to score over the remaining two and a half innings and South Central suffered the 4-3 loss. The Cougars start their season at 0-1 and will be back in action on Wednesday as they have host Cisne for their home opener.
