SEB Falls to Dieterich in Monday NTC Matchup


St. Elmo-Brownstown scored late but was unable to come back from an 11-run deficit as they fell to Dieterich 12-4 in National Trail Conference action at home on Monday. Dieterich took an early 1-0 lead in the first and scored three more runs in the top of the fourth inning to lead SEB 4-0 before the Lady Eagles scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. With a runner at second, Macey Sapp reached base on an error and Dayana Haslett came around to score to cut Dieterich’s lead to 4-1. The Maroons answered with five runs in the fifth inning and another three in the top of the sixth inning as SEB trailed 12-1 to start the bottom half of the sixth. With one out, Haslett singled on a bunt and then scored on the throw when Sapp grounded into a fielder’s choice to cut it to 12-2 and then Izzy Orr also grounded into a fielder’s choice to score Sapp to further cut it to 12-3. With runners at first and third, Orr took second on defensive indifference and Brooklyn Landrus stole home to make it 12-4 before a strikeout ended the half inning. Each team was then held scoreless in the seventh as Dieterich closed out their win and SEB took the 12-4 loss. The Lady Eagles are 1-3 on the season and will have a couple days off before returning to play on Thursday at Odin.
