Brownstown-St. Elmo baseball is of to a 2-0 start to the season after picking up a 7-5 win at Lebanon on Monday. The Bombers got out to an early 2-0 lead after Keelan Speagle and Lucas Powell drew back to back bases loaded walks in the top of the first inning. That lead held until the bottom of the third inning when the Greyhounds put up three runs to take a 3-2 lead. Neither team scored in the fourth and the fifth innings as BSE stayed close to Lebanon still trailing by a run. The Bombers began the top of the sixth inning with a leadoff walk by Jayden Hughett and then Calvin Voelker reached base on an error to put runners at first and second. Jayce Gillespie then hit a triple to center field to bring in Hughett and Voelker. A single by Logan Lach then drove in Gillespie and Lach scored on a single from L. Powell as BSE took a 6-3 lead. Another Bomber run in the top of the seventh inning on another RBI single from Lach push the BSE lead to 7-3 heading to the bottom of the seventh. Lebanon was able to put up two runs to cut the Bombers lead to 7-5, but a double play ended the Greyhounds threat and BSE finished off the 7-5 win. The Bombers are 2-0 on the young season and be right back in action at home today against North Clay.
