Altamont grad Grace Nelson has once again bounced back from adversity and is thriving in her redshirt freshman season for Illinois State women’s basketball. After coming back from an ACL injury her junior year in high school to help lead the Lady Indians to a third place finish at the 1A State Tournament, Nelson has bounced back from her second ACL injury that delayed her collegiate debut and is putting together a very strong redshirt freshman season. Nelson has played in all 29 games this season and is seventh on the Lady Redbirds in minutes played and is averaging 5.9 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1 assist per game off the bench. Her best game of the season came just a couple weeks ago in a win against Evansville as she hit for a career high 23 points in 27 minutes played and had four assists, a rebound and a steal in the game. It marked her second 20 plus points game in the season after her previous career high of 20 points on January 4 in a loss at Belmont. The Lady Redbirds will be on the road twice this week to take on Drake on Wednesday and then will be at Bradley on Sunday to wrap up the regular season before competing in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in Coralville, Iowa.
