BSE Wins First Ever Sectional Semifinal Game, Will Play Edwards County in Sectional Championship

Brownstown-St. Elmo girls basketball made history on Tuesday night, beating Christopher 46-25 in the semifinals of the Wayne City Sectional to make it to a Sectional Championship for the first time in program history and also got their 30th win of the season, the first time the Lady Bombers have ever reached that win threshold. After a couple minutes of scoreless basketball to start he game, Danika Ramsey put the Lady Bombers on the board with a three-pointer from the right wing to go up 3-0. The Lady Bearcats cut it to 3-2, but another three from Ramsey and five points from Dayana Haslett put BSE on top 11-3 at the end of the first quarter. A pair of three-pointers from Christopher in the second quarter got the Bearcats going, but seven more points from Haslett and Madi Miller and Presley Williams each getting in the scoring column with two points kept BSE ahead by 11 points at halftime, 22-11. BSE kept pushing in the third quarter as Haslett dropped another seven points, Miller tallied six points and Ramsey hit another three in the frame as a 16-10 run pushed the Lady Bombers lead out to 38-21. BSE would score just eight more points in the game as Addie Sasse and Miller each scored from the floor and Williams, Ramsey and Miller all hit from the free throw line to put the game away and secure the 46-25 win. BSE is now 30-3 on the season and is one of just 16 girls teams in Class 1A still alive in the postseason as they will play in the Sectional Championship for the first time ever on Thursday evening when they face Edwards County at 6:30pm at Wayne City High School. The winner of that game will advance to the Arcola Super-Sectional to play the winner of the Argenta-Oreana Sectional Championship game between Cumberland and Mt. Pulaski.

BSE Scoring:

Dayana Haslett – 19 points

Madi Miller – 12 points

Danika Ramsey – 10 points
