Altamont took an early six-point lead in the first quarter and then put their defense into high gear putting the game out of reach early for a 78-33 win over Sandoval in the quarterfinals of their own Altamont 1A Regional on Monday night. The Indians found some early offensive rhythm but the Blackhawks were able to keep within a couple possessions as Altamont led just 19-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Indians defense would take over in the second quarter as they allowed just seven points to Sandoval during a 20-7 run as Altamont pulled ahead 39-20 at halftime. Altamont’s defensive pressure remained in place after the halftime break as they held Sandoval to just seven points again while pouring in 27 points in an offensive onslaught that opened the Indians lead to 39 points, as they held a 66-27 lead to start the fourth quarter. Altamont outscored the Blackhawks 12-6 in the fourth quarter to close out the 78-33 win and extend their season for at least one more game. Altamont is now 21-10 on the season and they advance to the Semifinals where they face Edwards County on Wednesday at 7:30pm at home.
