Our Pro Wire Athlete of the Week for the week of February 22 are Vandalia wrestlers Dade Kleinik, Ross Miller, Preston Waughtel, Max Philpot and Dillon Hinton.
The Vandals had 5 athletes reach the podium at the IHSA 1A Individual Wrestling State Finals with three of them capturing Championships. Dade Kleinik is a first time State medalist, taking sixth at 150lbs while Ross Miller captured his second State medal, finishing in third place at 190lbs at this year’s State Finals. After winning a state title his freshman year at a different school, Preston Waughtel won his first championship as a Vandal, taking first place at 126lbs and he became the 7th Vandal to be an individual wrestling champion. Max Philpot made some history as he is the first male Vandalia wrestler to be a two-time Individual State Champion as he won his second straight Championship, this year’s coming at 132lbs. Dillon Hinton became the 8th Vandal to be an individual wrestling champion as he won his very first state title, coming at 157lbs as he is also now a four-time state medalist as he reached the podium every year of his high school career.
