Vandals Can't Overcome First-Half Deficit in SCC Loss to Pana


The Vandlia Vandals trailed by as much as 13 points on Friday night, but battled back to trail by as little as 4 points. However, it was too little, too late, as they fell to the Pana Panthers 56-52. The two teams would trade baskets in the first quarter, but a few turnovers from the Vandals helped the Panthers end the frame with a 14-11 lead. Pana would come out firing in the second quarter, outscoring Vandalia 17-11 to take a 31-22 lead going into halftime. The two teams would again trade baskets in the third quarter, with the Vandals narrowly outscoring the Panthers 11-8, but would still trail 39-33 to enter the fourth quarter. Pana would come out and extend their lead to as big as 13 in the fourth quarter, but Vandalia would rally to cut the deficit to 4, but their first-half deficit was too much to overcome, falling to the Panthers 56-52. The loss ends the Vandals regular season with a record of 17-14, and 7-2 in SCC play. Vandalia will begin postseason play on Monday when they host Flora at 6 PM.
