Five Vandals Advance to Championship Semifinals, Five Will Have to Go Through Wrestlebacks at Individual Wrestling State Finals


Five Vandalia wrestlers worked their way into the Championship Semifinals of the IHSA 1A Individual State Wrestling Finals by going 2-0 on Thursday while five more Vandals will look to work their way through the Wrestlebacks after suffering losses in the Preliminary and Championship Quarterfinal rounds. Preston Waughtel at 126, Max Philpto at 132, Dade Kleinik at 150, Dillon Hinton at 157 and Ross Miller at 190 all went 2-0 to advance to the Semifinals and will wrestle again on Friday evening. Brody Matthews at 138 picked up a win in the Preliminary round but then suffered a loss in the Championship Quarterfinals to finish Thursday at 1-1 and he will go to the Second Round of Wrestlebacks on Friday afternoon. Kaiden Daughterty at 106, Riley Hinton at 120, Eli Mabry at 144 and Zayne Zinkgraf at 165 all suffered losses in the Preliminary round on Thursday morning which sends them to the First Round Wrestlebacks that will be held on Friday morning. Wrestling gets underway today at 9:00am with the First Round of Wrestlebacks with the Second Round Wrestlebacks starting at approximately 1:00pm. After and early evening break, the Championship Semifinals will be held at 7:00pm on Friday night

106lbs – Kaiden Daugherty: Daugherty lost to Nate Lower of Taylor Ridge Rockridge by Fall in 4:33 in the Preliminary Round. Daughterty will now go to the First Round of Wrestlebacks on Friday where he will face Sebastian Lara of Lisle.

120lbs – Riley Hinton: Hinton lost to Jack Ragan of Dixon by Decision, 7-0, in the Preliminary Round. Hinton will now go to the First Round of Wrestlebacks on Friday morning where he will face Briley Carter of Clinton.

126lbs – Preston Waughtel: Waughtel beat Owen Peersen of Coal City by Decision, 1-0, in the Championship Quarterfinals. Waughtel has advanced to the Championship Semifinals and will face Alexander Ferari of Lisle on Friday evening.

132lbs – Max Philpot: Philpot beat Wyatt Franckowiak of Richmond Burton by Fall in 5:27 in the Championship Quarterfinals. Philpot has advanced to the Championship Semifinals and will face Landon Blanton of Sterling Newman Central Catholic on Friday evening.

138lbs – Brody Matthews: Matthews lost to Landen Lage of GCMS in the Championship Quarterfinals. Matthews will now go to the Second Round of Wrestlebacks where he will face the winner of the bout between Ryan Alaimo of Yorkville Christian and Kenzer Burrell of Stanford Olympia on Friday afternoon.

144lbs – Eli Mabry: Mabry lost to Arrison Bauer of Lena-Winslow by Major Decision, 15-2, in the Preliminary Round. Mabry will now go to the First Round of Wrestlebacks on Friday morning where he will face Johnny Consuegra-Lopez of Lisle.

150lbs – Dade Kleinik: Kleinik beat Cale Hilbing of Quincy Notre Dame by Fall in 3:36 in the Championship Quarterfinals. Kleinik has advanced to the Championship Semifinals and will face Cooper Corder of Sandwich on Friday evening.

157lbs – Dillon Hinton: Hinton beat Chase Siguenza of Wheaton St. Francis by Tech Fall (15-1 in 3:10) in the Championship Quarterfinals. Hinton has advanced to the Championship Semifinals and will face Hudson Babb of GCMS on Friday evening.

165lbs – Zayne Zinkgraf: Zinkgraf lost to Casey Etheridge of Princeton by Tech Fall (15-0 in 2:14) in in the Preliminary Round. Zinkgraf will now go to the First Round of Wrestlebacks on Friday morning where he will face Lucas Hetman of Manteno.

190lbs – Ross Miller: Miller beat Noah Stout of Morrison by Decision in Tiebreaker 1, 2-1, in the Championship Quarterfinals. Miller has advanced to the Championship Semifinals and will face Logan VanDuyne of Wilmington on Friday evening.
