Altamont Struggles Against Pressure from Father McGivney in Senior Night Loss

The Altamont Lady Indians struggled to handle the defensive pressure of Father McGivney as they suffered a 51-14 loss at home for Senior Night on Monday. As part of the game’s opening sequence, senior Kaylee Lurkins who has been out since Thanksgiving Week with a torn ACL, suited up for the Lady Indians and with prior agreement with the Griffins, Father McGivney took the ball on the opening tip and scored a basket before Altamont handed the ball off to Lurkins to put up an uncontested shot from the post to officially cap off her high school career on her home floor. Following Lurkins basket, Altamont was held to just one more point in the quarter on a free throw from Avery Aldrich as they trailed 20-3 to end the first. The Lady Indians were able to get some offense clicking in the second quarter with nine points, five from Aldrich and pair of baskets from Kennedi Schultz and Quincy Niermann, but they were still outscored by the Griffins 11-9 in the quarter and trailed 31-12 at halftime. A scoreless third quarter had Altamont trailing 45-12 and after only putting up two points in the fourth quarter, the Lady Indians took the 51-14 loss. Altamont is now 10-14 on the season and will wrap up regular season play on Thursday at Olney.
