Vandals Knock off Southwestern for 4th Straight Win


The Vandalia Vandals used a big third-quarter run to come away with a 50-39 win over the Piasa Southwestern Birds on Friday night. The Birds started the game out on a 13-3 run, and would outscore the Vandals 7-6 to end the first quarter with a 13-9 lead. Vandalia would come out strong in the second quarter, going on a 17-7 run to end the half with a 26-20 lead. The Vandals would increase their defensive intensity in the third quarter, holding the Birds to just 6 points which led to a 14-6 third-quarter advantage, which gave them a 40-26 lead going into the fourth. The Birds outscored Vandalia 13-10 in the fourth quarter, but the deficit was too much to overcome, as the Vandals were able to come away with the 50-39 win. The win improves Vandalia to 14-12 on the season and 5-1 in SCC play. The Vandals have now won four straight games. They will be back in action Saturday afternoon, going on the road to take on Sullivan.
