The Vandalia Jr. High 7th grade boys basketball team advanced to the State Tournament on Wednesday night, coming away with a 56-47 win over the East St. Louis Lincoln Lions in the Litchfield Sectional Championship. East St. Louis Lincoln started the game off on a 5-0 run, before the Vandals responded with a 14-5 run to end the quarter with a 14-10 lead. Vandalia would outscore the Lions 17-14 in the second quarter to enter the half with a 31-24 lead. Points would be hard to come by in the third quarter, with Vandalia narrowly outscoring East St. Louis Lincoln 9-7 to enter the fourth quarter with a 40-31 lead. The fourth quarter would be an even 16-16 scoring run, but the first-half lead would be enough for the Vandals to pull away with the 56-47 win. The win improves the Vandals to 21-4 on the season. The Vandals will take on Lisle on Saturday at 1:00 pm at El Paso Gridley High School at 1:00 pm. A win will advance the Vandals to the semifinals of the IESA 7-3A State Tournament.
