The National Trail Conference is down to one unbeaten team after Dieterich handed Cumberland their first National Trail Conference loss of the season 39-36 on Friday night. After edging out to a 10-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Maroons were outscored by the Pirates 15-10 in the second quarter and trailed 24-20 at halftime. Dieterich had an 8-6 advantage in the third quarter to cut their deficit to just two points, 30-28, as the game shifted to the fourth quarter. The Maroons were able to tie things up and the game stood at 36-36 nearing the end of regulation before a three-pointer from Ezra Cook with 2.3 seconds left put Dieterich up 39-36 and a last second heave from Cumberland was off the mark to seal the Maroons win. Dieterich is now 15-5 on the season and 6-1 in the NTC. They will begin NTC Tournament play on Wednesday when they take on Windsor/Stew-Stras at 7:45pm in the Quarterfinals.
