Altamont Wins Fourth Straight, Knocks Off Shelbyville After a Week Off


Altamont boys basketball got a much needed week of rest and then returned to the court on Friday night to grab a 67-49 win on the road at Shelbyville. The Indians charged out to a 14-6 first quarter lead as Parker Bell came off the bench for six points and Cooper McManaway put up another five points to jump start the offense. The Rams got their offense moving in the second quarter and stuck right with Altamont, but Bell had another big quarter with a trio of three-pointers for nine points while McManaway hit for five points again and Kade Milleville put up four points as they just outscored Shelbyville in the quarter 18-16 and maintained the lead 32-22 at halftime. The Indians were able to pad their lead after the break with a 20-12 third quarter run behind another 10 points from McManaway as they went up 52-34 to start the fourth quarter. The teams battled even in the quarter, each scoring 15 points in the final eight minutes as the Altamont lead held tight and the Indians closed out the 67-49 win. The win marks the fourth in a row for the Indians who now stand at 12-7 on the season. They will be at home all next week as they begin play in the National Trail Conference Tournament, opening up against North Clay on Wednesday at 6:15pm. It will be the second time the two teams will meet in a matter of a 12 days after the Indians got a 65-64 win in overtime over the Cardinals in Louisville on January 16.
