The South Central Lady Cougars got a great defensive performance on Monday Morning, knocking off the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Lady Bobcats 36-22 in the first Play-in game of the 2026 NTC girls basketball tournament. Both teams got off to a slow start in the first quarter, but the Lady Bobcats found themselves ahead 8-7, behind four points from both Lena Bowlin and Harper Lilly. The Lady Cougars would step up defensively in the second quarter, shutting out CHBC, and scoring ten points to enter halftime with a 17-8 lead. South Central would outscore CHBC 8-7 in the third quarter to enter the fourth with a 25-15 advantage, and would hold the Lady Bobcats to 7 points in the fourth quarter, and pitched in 11 of their own to come away with the 36-22 win. The win improves South Central to 4-9 on the season. The Lady Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday to take on the number on seeded Brownstown/St. Elmo Bombers at 6:00 PM. The loss drops CHBC to 3-13 on the season. The Lady Bobcats will be back in action on Wednesday to take on either North Clay, or Windsor/Stew-Stras at 5:00 PM.
