Mid-Game Lull in Scoring Holds South Central Back in NTC Loss to WSS

South Central couldn’t overcome a rough mid-game scoring lull as they suffered a 61-38 loss to Windsor/Stew-Stras in National Trail Conference action at home on Tuesday. The Cougars and Hatchets traded points back and forth in the first quarter with South Central trailing 12-10 at the end of the quarter. Over the next 16 minutes of play the Cougars were held to just 11 points with just three baskets from the floor and going five for six at the free throw line as they trailed 31-18 at halftime and 45-23 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter played out much like the first on that it was another back and forth battle. Just a couple minutes into the quarter, South Central junior Westin Neilson scored the most exciting three points of the game, hitting a three-pointer from the left wing to hit the 1,000 career point milestone. The Cougars would be just outscored in the quarter 16-15 as they couldn’t catch up to the Hatchets and they were handed the 61-38 loss. The Cougars are now 7-10 on the season and 0-2 in the NTC. They go on the road on Friday for another NTC matchup when they travel to Dieterich.
