Lady Vandals Beat Lady Cougars at Buzzer in OT


It may have taken an extra quarter, but the Vandalia Lady Vandals earned a 61-58 win over the South Central Lady Cougars on Monday night, behind a game-winning three-pointer from Bella Walk. Both teams traded baskets in the first quarter, but the Lady Vandals found themselves ahead 14-13 after one quarter of play. The second quarter was a back and forth affair once again, with Vandalia outscoring South Central 16-14 to enter halftime with a 30-27 lead. The third quarter would be a tightly contested one, but the Lady Vandals would narrowly outscore the Lady Cougars 18-17 to enter the fourth quarter with a 48-44 lead. South Central would rally in the fourth quarter, going on a 10-6 run, to tie the game at 54 and send it into overtime. The Lady Cougars would get on the board first in OT, with Zoey Feldhake getting a putback layup, and a steal and layup from Perci Reid to take a 58-54 lead with under two minuets left. The Lady Vandals would fight back, with Walk cutting the deficit to one with a three pointer, and Ollie Whitehead going 1-2 at the free throw line to tie it with 30 seconds left. After forcing a turnover with 7 seconds left, Vandalia would drive the length of the floor, and Walk would hit a three as time expired to propel the Lady Vandals to the 61-58 win. The win improves Vandalia to 5-13 on the season. The Lady Vandals will be back in action on Wednesday to take on Ramsey-Mullberry Grove. The loss drops South Central to 3-8 on the season. The Lady Cougars will be on the road on Thursday to take on WSS in an NTC matchup.
