The Vandalia Vandals saw their three-game losing streak come to an end on Friday, knocking off the Carlinville Cavaliers 51-37. The Vandals had their offense going in the first quarter, outscoring the Cavaliers 17-11, highlighted by an 8-point quarter from Qwentyn Stombaugh,with Andrew Casey and Lucas Bowers chipping in with 5 and 4 points. Points were hard to come by in the third quarter, as the Vandals would be outscored 9-8, but still lead 25-20 heading into halftime. Carlinville would begin to chip away at the deficit in the third quarter, going on a 14-11 run, but Vandalia still entered the fourth quarter with a 36-34 lead. The fourth quarter would be all Vandalia, as they would use a 15-3 run, highlighted by a three-pointer from Casey, a couple of transition baskets from Stombaugh and Brenton McCarty, and a thunderous two-handed dunk from Lucas Bowers to come away with a 51-37 win. The win improves the Vandals to 9-8 on the season, and 2-1 in SCC play. Vandalia will be back in action on Saturday to take on Salem.
