Altamont got out to an early double digit lead and would keep South Central at a sizable distance as the Lady Indians beat the Lady Cougars 45-25 in National Trail Conference action on Thursday night. Altamont got rolling early as Ella Nelson hit a trio of three-pointers and Alyssa Ruholl had four points to pace a 19-6 first quarter run for the Lady Indians who held South Central to just one basket from the field from Baylee Brown while the other four points, three of them from Brown, came from the free throw line. While Altamont’s scoring was slowed to just seven points in the second quarter, they held the Lady Cougars to just four points, three of them from Kennah Heistand, as the Lady Indians pushed their lead to 26-10 at halftime. Altamont continued to create more space between themselves and South Central, outscoring the Lady Cougars 13-7 in the third quarter, with Avery Aldirich hitting for five points for Altamont and Amelia Montes putting in three for South Central as the Lady Indians lead would grow to 39-17 to start the fourth quarter. The Lady Cougars outscored Altamont 8-6 in the final minutes but the Lady Indians finished off the 45-25 win. The victory was the fifth straight conference win for Altamont who is now 9-6 on the season and 5-1 in the NTC. They will be at home again on Saturday as they host Woodlawn as part of Altamont’s Mega Day. The JV girls will play at approximately 3:30pm with Varsity Girls to follow. South Central is now 3-7 on the season and 1-3 in the NTC. They will return to action on Monday at home against Vandalia.
