The Vandalia Vandals trailed by as much as 21 points but were able to cut the deficit to as little as 11 points. However, they could not complete the comeback, falling to the Newton Eagles 60-42 on Tuesday. The Vandals got on the board first off a layup from Qwentyn Stombaugh, but the Eagles would go on a 10-3 run to take a 10-5 first-quarter lead. Newton would get their offense going in the second quarter, outscoring Vandalia 19-8 to take a 29-13 halftime lead. The Vandals would start to chip away at the deficit, narrowly outscoring the Eagles 15-14, but would enter the fourth quarter trailing 43-28. Vandalia would attempt to battle back, but the first-half deficit was too much to overcome, as Newton would go on a 23-14 run to close out the game 60-42. The loss drops the Vandals to 8-8 on the season. Vandalia will be back at home on Friday for an SCC showdown with Carlinville.
