St. Elmo-Brownstown struggled to get its offense going and couldn’t catch North Clay as they fell 74-45 in National Trail Conference action on Wednesday night. The Eagles trailed 15-0 before finally being able to get on the scoreboard with a three-pointer and got down 31-12 by the end of a hectic first quarter. SEB was able to slow the Cardinals scoring in the second quarter and keep pace, but were outscored 19-17 as they continued to trail by a large margin, 50-29. At halftime. The Eagles gave up a 10-0 run to North Clay to start the third quarter and fell behind 60-28 before a three-pointer started a 7-0 SEB run. That run was cut short though as SEB was outscored 16-11 in the quarter to trail 66-40 as the game moved its final eight minutes. The two teams combined for just 13 points in the fourth quarter with North Clay outscoring SEB 8-5 as the Eagles were handed the 74-45 loss. The Eagles are now 5-3 on the season and 1-1 in the NTC and will jump right back into NTC play on Friday when they host St. Anthony.
