The Vandalia Vandals used a 40-22 second-half advantage, and a 30-point outing from Qwentyn Stombaugh to come away with a 69-40 win over the South Central Cougars on Tuesday night. Both teams traded baskets to start the game, but the Vandals would capitalize on a few Cougars’ turnovers to take a 14-11 first-quarter lead, highlighted by an 11-point quarter from Stombaugh. The Vandals would go on a 15-8 run in the second quarter, pushing their lead to 29-19 and entering the half. Vandalia would keep its foot on the gas, using a 21-13 third-quarter scoring advantage, to enter the fourth quarter up 50-32. Vandalia would go on to outscore South Central 19-8 in the fourth quarter, coming away with the 69-40 victory. The win improves the Vandals to 3-2 on the season. Vandalia will begin SCC play on Friday at home to take on North Mac. South Central falls to 2-4 on the season. The Cougars will begin NTC play on Friday, going on the road against Altamont.
