Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City girls basketball opened up Egyptian Illini Conference play at home and suffered a tough two point loss to Martinsville, 30-28, on Thursday. The Lady Bobcats fell behind early, trailing 8-4 at the end of the first quarter and despite playing the Blue Streaks tight in the second quarter, CHBC remained down 19-14 at halftime. That deficit would remain about the same 26-22 at the end of the third quarter, but the Lady Bobcats began making some moves in the fourth quarter. Back-to-back baskets by Carissa Wakefield and Ethel Stuckemeyer tied the game up at 26-26 before Lena Bowlin would hit to give CHBC the 28026 point lead with 3:@1 remaining in the game. Martinsville would tie things back up at 28-28 with 2:06 remaining and then hit another shot to regain the lead 30-28 and the Lady Bobcats were unable to hit late as they tried to tie things up again and would take the 30-28 loss. CHBC drops to 0-1 in the EIC and to 1-6 overall on the season. They will be back in action on Monday as they host Shelbyville.
