South Central held a lead through most of the first half but after losing the lead in the third quarter, the Cougars needed a fourth quarter comeback to grab a 42-20 win over Mt. Olive to wrap up pool play at the Mulberry Grove Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday night. South Central lead 15-12 after the first before losing the lead in the second quarter and trailed by a slim margin, 19-17, at halftime. The Wildcats grabbed momentum in the third quarter though and outscored the Cougars 16-10 in the quarter as South Central trailed 35-27 to start the fourth quarter. Trailing 40-37 with under a minute to play, Eli Heistand hit a three pointer from the right corner to tie the game up at 40-40. On the ensuing possession, the Cougars forced a Mt. Olive turnover and Heistand drove to the basket, being fouled in the process on the missed basket. He would hit both free throws to give South Central the lead with 6.6 seconds remaining. Mt. Olive got a shot off that was no good but missed both free throws and the Cougars were able to rebound the ball to close out the game and the close win, 42-20. The Cougars wrap up pool play at 2-1 and earned a spot on the Third Place game today where they face National Trail Conference foe St. Elmo-Brownstown at 4:30pm.
