Altamont girls basketball struggled to score early and couldn’t overcome their early deficit as they fell to the host Newton Lady Eagles in their second game of the Bob Kerans Tournament at Newton High School on Wednesday night. The Lady Indians were held to just four points in each of the three quarters as Newton put up double digit scoring in those same quarters. Altamont trailed 18-4 at the end of the first quarter and 30-8 at halftime before finding themselves behind 43-12 to start he fourth quarter. Altamont would outscore the Lady Eagles in the last eight minutes of play, 12-7, but couldn’t close the large gap as they took the 50-24 loss. Altamont drops to 2-2 on the season and will wrap up play in the tournament on Friday at noon when they take on Flora.
