The Vandals didn’t have a ton of offensive opportunities in their Round One playoff game on Saturday afternoon at Mark Greer Field, but they made the most of it in a 42 to 6 win over the CZRE Bearcats.
CZRE was able to move the ball on the ground against the Vandals defense–which ate up a ton of time of possession–but they were not able to cash it in for a score. The Vandals ran just 7 offensive plays in the 1st half but were able to held that turn into a 28 to 0 lead at halftime. Among the big plays in the first half was a 91 yard TD run on a jet sweep by Kohnor Depew at the 7:27 mark of the 2nd quarter and an Interception returned for a TD by Lucas Bowers from 85 yards with 20 second left in the 2nd quarter. On that play, CZRE had a 2nd and goal from 7 before the Pick Six.
The Vandals are now 10-0 on the season. They move to the 2nd round of the playoffs where they will see a familiar opponent as the Vandals will travel to Greenville to face the Comets, who were 35 to 32 winners over Stanford Olympia on Saturday. The two teams met in Week 6 at Greenville, with the Vandals getting a 28 to 18 come-from-behind win. The two teams will play Saturday afternoon at 2 pm at Don Stout Field in Greenville.
