The Vandals honored their Seniors and then went about taking care of business as they claimed a 49 to 14 win over the Litchfield Purple Panthers on Senior Night at Mark Greer Field on Friday night.
The Vandals got the scoring started with their first special teams Touchdown of the season–a 77 yard Punt Return for a Touchdown by Kohnor Depew just 2:01 into the game. The Vandals would then keep the scoring going as they would build the lead to 35 to 0 before Litchfield would finally answer with their first score of the game with 35 seconds remaining until halftime. But, the Vandals would answer that score with one of their own and would lead 42 to 6 at the break. The Vandals then got a score at 8:42 of the 3rd quarter to put the game in running clock the rest of the way.
Qwentyn Stombaugh was a perfect 8 for 8 throwing the ball on Friday night with 259 yards and 6 TDs. Those 6 scores breaks the Vandals single season TD record for a QB. He also threw for 1,629 regular season yards, which is also a new Vandals record.
Kohnor Depew ran for 23 yards and caught 4 passes for 154 yards and a TD. He becomes the 2nd Vandals receiver with 3,000 yards in his career and he’s 64 yards shy of tying Marcus Zimmermn for the all time receiving yards record.
The Vandals finish the regular season at 9-0 and win the South Central Conference outright. This is the 5th time in school history the Vandals have had an undefeated regular season and their first since 2019. The Vandals will be at home in Round 1 of the playoffs next weekend, with class, opponent and date & time of game still to be determined.
