The Movin’ Maroons scored seven runs in the sixth inning but could not overcome an early deficit and came up short in their comeback attempt, falling to Windsor/Stew-Stras 12-8 in the quarterfinals of the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament on Monday. The Hatchets grabbed a 2-0 first inning lead and added five more in the top of the fourth inning as the Maroons found themselves trailing 7-0 before being able to break through with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs in the inning, Dominic Ashley hit an RBI single to center field to score Gavin Meinhart and cut the WSS lead to 7-1. The Hatchets tacked on another three runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth inning as the Maroons trailed 12-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. A single to right field by Justin Boerngen brought in two runs with one more run scoring on a WSS error. With a runner still on base, Bryce Bohnhoff hit a home run to left field and Dieterich cut the Hatchet lead to 12-6. Before the inning was up, Andrew Hall doubled and Jackson Icenogle singled with each hit bringing in a run to cut Dieterich’s deficit to 12-8. The Maroons offensive outburst was ended by a fly out as WSS held onto their 12-8 lead going into the seventh. The Hatchets went three up, three down in the top of the seventh giving the Maroons one final chance and they would load the bases in the bottom half of the inning, but were unable to complete their comeback attempt, suffering the 12-8 loss. Dieterich ends the fall season at 9-11.
