Altamont baseball pushed five runs across the plate in the fifth inning to maintain their early lead and grab a 7-3 win over Woodlawn at home on Saturday. The Indians opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, taking advantage a Cardinals error for the first run with the second coming in off of a RBI single from Blake Berg for a 2-0 Altamont lead. Woodlawn cut the Indians lead in half with a run of their own in the top of the second inning, making it 2-1 and that score would hold for the next three innings. In the bottom of the fifth inning, a runner scored when Kade Milleville reached base on an error and then Milleville came in to score on a wild pitch after a sequence of errors by Woodlawn as the Indians expanded their lead to 4-1. The Indians scored another run on a passed ball before Brayden Elam picked up an RBI single and Carson Milleville hit a sacrifice fly for another run as Altamont’s lead grew to 7-1. Woodlawn was able to score two runs in the top of the sixth, but Altamont closed out the win, 7-3, to even their season record up at 9-9. The Indians begin National Trail Conference play on Monday as #3 seed Altamont will take on #6 seed Neoga at home at 4:00pm
