Our Pro Wire Athletes of the Week for October 4 are the Vandalia High School football team, SEB volleyball senior Presley Williams, Vandalia golf senior Jack Lewis and Ramsey golf senior Bryce Gillock.

The Vandalia football team is now 6-0 on the season and battled through their toughest game of the season on Friday night. The Vandals trailed Greenville for most of the first half before tying things up at 8-8 before halftime and trailed 11-8 at the end of the third quarter. The Vandals then outscored the Comets 20-7 in the final quarter to grab the 28-18 win and remain undefeated on the season.

SEB senior volleyball player Presley Williams has been on a hot streak since returning from an ankle injury a couple weeks ago. This week in six matches played for the Lady Eagles, Williams has amassed 49 kills, 25 digs, 7 aces, 3 blocks and 2 assists and was named a member of the Webber Tournament All-Tournament Team.

Vandalia golf senior Jack Lewis had one of his best rounds of the season on Wednesday, tying for fifth place with a score of 76 at the Carlyle 1A Regional at Governor’s Run Golf Course. Lewis was the fourth highest individual scorer not on an advancing team to earn his spot in the Teutopolis Sectional that will be held on Monday at Effingham Country Club. Lewis is a first time Sectional qualifier.

Ramsey golf senior Bryce Gillock earned his qualifying Sectional spot for the second year in a row as he tied for 10th place with a score of 78 to earn an advancing individual spot at the Carlyle 1A Regional at Governor’s Run Golf Course. Gillock will move on to compete at the Teutopolis Sectional that will be held on Monday at Effingham Country Club.
