Our Pro Wire Athletes of the Week for September 27 are the Vandalia High School and Altamont High School soccer teams.
The Vandalia High School soccer team picked up their first two wins of the season this week and did so in shut out fashion. On Monday, the Vandals traveled to Jacksonville and picked up a 4-0 win over Illinois School for the Deaf, 4-0. After their home game Tuesday was rained out and got pushed to Wednesday, the Vandals got a 3-0 win over Taylorville. Nic Jackson had 3 goals and Cole Durbin and Garrett McGinness each had 2 goals across the two wins while Javier Gutierrez got the two shut out wins in goal.
The Altamont High School soccer team went 3-0 during their homestand this week with two coming against much larger schools. On Saturday morning, the Indians played host to Greenville and picked up a 6-1 win and then got back into action on Tuesday where they won a wild, rain-soaked affair over St. Anthony, 3-0, in a battle between the only two National Trail Conference schools with soccer teams. Altamont then wrapped up the homestand with a hard fought 1-0 win over Robinson. Cooper Pals and Aiden Rosales each had three goals on the week while Juan Fulk, Ashton Buchanan, Quincy Niermann and Zach Reyes had a goal apiece while senior Adam Wolff got all three wins in goal including putting up two shutouts.
