The Vandalia Jr. Vandals baseball team made history on Wednesday, claiming their first Regional Championship in program history with an 8-2 win over the Effingham Jr. High Mustangs. The Mustangs would get on the board with an RBI single in the top of the third inning, but the Vandals would quickly respond with a 2 RBI double from Gabe Lewis to take a 2-1 lead. Vandalia would break the game open in the top of the fourth inning, scoring 4 runs to make it a 4-1 ballgame. Effingham would add on one run in the fifth, but the Vandals would add a couple of insurance runs to secure the 8-2 win. The win improves the Vandals to 15-1-1 on the season. They will play 16-3 Chatham Glenwood on Saturday in the St. Jacob Sectional at 11 am.
