Altamont Routs Wayne City for Fifth Straight Win


Altamont baseball won its fifth straight game on Monday, picking up a big 14-3 win on the road at Wayne City. Altamont trailed 1-0 at the end of the first inning but quickly tied the game up in the top of the second inning on an RBI groundout by Blake Berg that scored Brayden Elam. Wayne City took the lead again, 2-1, with another run in the bottom of the inning but once again Altamont was able to respond in the top of the third on an RBI single to score Kade Milleville to knot the game up at 2-2. Altamont took their first lead of the game in the top of the fourth inning as a double from Carson Milleville scored a pair of runs and Kade Milleville hit an RBI single to bring in another run for a 5-2 lead. After Wayne City scored its third and final run in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Altamont lead to 5-3, the black and orange went back to work in the top of the fifth inning pushing three more runs across the plate on a single by Brayden Schnarre, a run on a wild pitch and a RBI groundout by C. Milleville to build the lead to 8-3. With a few insurance runs already in place, Altamont didn’t let up and lit up the sixth inning for six more runs to put the game away and lock in the 14-3 win. Altamont moves to 6-4 on the season and will be on the road again today as they take on St. Anthony in National Trail Conference action in Effingham.
