Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City cross country kicked off their season strong on Thursday as they boys team finished second in the team standing with three Bobcats placing in the top 12 individually while the CHBC girls with just three team members had all girls place in the top 14 individually in the meet that featured teams from host Altamont, Effingham, Charleston, Teutopolis, Cisne and Windsor/Stew-Stras.
On the boys side, senior August Cosart set the tone for the Bobcats with a second place finish, coming in at a PR time of 15:08.87 with sophomore Deacon Sutter taking 10th place with a time of 17:42.34 and freshman Eli Maxedon placing 12th with a time of 17:55. Sophomore Kaiden Garrido ran a PR time of 18:38 to finish in 20th place while junior Hayden Sarver took 22nd with a PR time of 18:58 and sophomore Charlie Witteborg finished in 23rd place with PR time of 19:30. Freshman Kaisyn Calame finished the course in a time of 20:25 for 32nd and junior Porter Lilly placed 37th with a time of 21:49.
On the girls side of the meet, sophomore Zoe Sarver finished in fourth place and ran a PR time of 21:17 while teammates Eve Flores, a freshman, came in 8th place with a time of 22:48 and junior Laney Doty took 14th with a time of 23:43.
The Bobcats will have two meets in the coming week as they will compete at Sullivan on Tuesday before heading to Shelbyville on Saturday, September 13 for the Dacey Trail Invite.
