The Vandals survived a wild 3rd quarter of scoring, got a couple of defensive stops to open up the lead and rolled to a 51 to 33 win at Carlinville to start off the 2025 football season.
The Vandals started off the night in a hole after a Vandals fumble was recovered by Carlinville and gave them a short field for a quick score to make it 7 to 0 Cavaliers. The Vandals got on the board at the 1:18 mark of the 1st quarter with a 31 yard FG from Cole Durbin. And, the Vandals would get a TD early in the 2nd quarter to take a lead they would never relinquish.
The Vandals led 17 to 13 at halftime and then the teams combined to score 34 points in the 4th quarter. The Vandals twice extend their lead to 10 only to see Carlinville score and cut it to 3. But, the Vandals would eventually get some defensive stops and open up the lead to 51 to 27 with 8:45 remaining in the game. Carlinville got the final tally with 2.8 second left for the final score on the night.
For the Vandals they improve to 1-0 on the season. They will get their first home game under their new lights next Friday night as they will host the Hillsboro Hiltoppers.
