Dieterich baseball bounced back from a tough conference loss earlier in the week to beat Neoga, 2-1, on Friday night in National Trail Conference action. The Maroons opened scoring in the bottom of the first inning as a lead off walk by Bryce Bohnhoff turned into a run after Jackson Icenogle reached base on an error allowing Bonhoff to score and put Dieterich up 1-0. Neoga evened things up, 1-1, in the top of the third inning but the Maroons broke that tie in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ben Schottman reached base on an error to open the inning and moved up to second on a single by Bonhoff. Schottman then came around to score on a single to center field by Gavin Meinhart and Dieterich pulled ahead 2-1. Meinhart’s RBI single proved to the be the game winner as the final inning and a half went by scoreless as Dieterich closed out the win. The Maroons are now 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in the NTC. They will play today in the Teutopolis Wooden Bat Classic, facing North Clay at 11:00am and then will face either the host Wooden Shoes or St. Anthony in their second game of the day.
