South Central baseball picked up its first win of the season on Thursday with a 10-2 win over Webber on the road. The Cougars got off to a quick start on a leadoff single by Aiden Hoover and a walk by Hudson Moore with both scoring on a line drive by Kaiden Harrell that resulted in an error by the Webber center fielder as South Central went up 2-0. A single by Luke Shumate and a walk by Sebastian Kruger loaded the bases and a two RBI single from Isaac Guerrettaz pushed the Cougars lead to 4-0 to end the first inning. They picked up in the second inning where they left off from the first with the first two batters of the inning, Chase Guerrettaz and Hudson Moore reaching base on an error and a single before Shumate brought both in on a line drive single to right field for a 6-0 South Central lead. The Cougars tacked on one more run in the inning when another Webber error lead to a run and a 7-0 South Central lead. An RBI groundout from Harrell and a RBI single from Shumate pushed the Cougar lead out to 9-0 in the third inning before Webber was able to keep South Central off the board in the fourth and fifth innings. A final run by South Central in the top of the sixth inning by Hoover scored Aiden Strobel for the Cougars to go up 10-0. Webber put up their first two runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning to avoid the run rule by cutting the South Central lead to 10-2. The Cougars were held scoreless in the seventh but closed out the 10-2 win. Hudson Moore got the win on the mound pitching five scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts and Luke Shumate had a big offensive day for the Cougars going 3-5 with 2 RBI. With their first win of the season, South Central moves to 1-3 on the season and will have the next several days off before returning to action on Tuesday at CHBC.
