Overall Male Standout Athletes (in no particular order):

Kade Milleville, Altamont – The junior broke out his sophomore year and kept his momentum rolling into his junior year. In baseball, Milleville led both the Indians pitching staff and led the team offensively. Kade earned First Team All-Conference honors for the National Trail Conference in the Fall. In basketball, Milleville started all 32 games for the Indians and averaged 18.1 points and 7.8 rebounds a game. He finished with 579 points on the season and was named First Team All-Conference for the National Trail Conference while also being named to the Sesser-Valier and NTC All-Tournament Teams.

Callaway Smith, South Central – Smith was a steady leader for Cougars baseball in his senior year. Smith was a workhorse on the mound, pitching just under 100 innings for a record of 9-7, striking out 127 and finishing with a 2.89 ERA. At the plate. Smith hit .305 for the year and tallied a total of 36 RBI with seven home runs and 42 runs scored. Smith was named First Team All-Conference for the NTC. In basketball, Smith battled an injury and missed the beginning of the season, but made his presence known on his return, knocking down 31 three point field goals and helping facilitate the Cougar offense in several ways. Smith was also a tough defender for South Central with 44 steals.

AJ Radloff, CHBC – Radloff wrapped up his senior year as a Bobcat as the lone senior for CHBC basketball and was counted on to lead a young group. Radloff was tough in the guard and forward positions, distributing the ball and hitting some key shots when needed as he averaged 7.5 points and 6.5 rebound a game. On the baseball field, Radloff held down first base for the Bobcats while also getting a little time in on the mound. He helped CHBC win their second straight Egyptian Illini Conference title in the Fall and was named EIC All-Conference.

Qwentyn Stombaugh, Vandalia – Stombaugh made an impact on all three Vandals sports he competed in as a sophomore. Stombaugh took the reins of the Vandals offense on the football field and passed for 1,394 yards and rushed 140 times for yards 1,082 yards. He now stands at 15th all-time for the Vandals in passing yards and 14th in total offensive yards. Stombaugh was named First Team All-Conference Offensive Skills Positions for the South Central Conference. On the basketball court, Stombaugh would play in every game for the Vandals and averaged 12.8 and 3 assists a game. On the baseball field, Stombaugh was key part of the infield and also spent time on the mound. While playing most game at third base and shortstop, he would have an .895 field percentage for the season and pitched in 11 games, mostly in relief.

Ian Whitehead, Vandalia – Whitehead was a key member of three Vandals sports in his senior year. Ian was a standout on the track, making his final season, his best season as he would break the 12-year old school record in the 400m Dash and serve as the anchor for the school record breaking 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams. On the football field, Whitehead had a knack for picking up key interceptions and pass deflections at big times on defense as well as throwing some big blocks on offense. On the basketball court, Whitehead was a key weapon off the bench for the Vandals, using his quickness to complement the Vandals defense and transition game.

Zaine Miller, Altamont – Miller had a breakout year as a sophomore this year. On the basketball court, Miller became a big piece of the Varsity team, playing in 31 of 32 games and stepping into the starting five. Miller would average 8.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game and stepped up with 11 double digit scoring games, most notably a big 19-point game in Altamont’s upset conference win over Dieterich. On the baseball field, Miller was a very reliable defender in the catcher’s spot with a .970 fielding percentage. He also pitched in 10 games in the Fall and despite battling an injury in the Spring, was able to pitch in 8 games while also helping hold down the middle part of the batting order.

August Cosart, CHBC – Cosart continued to build on a strong sophomore year with a bigger junior year. In the Fall, Cosart claimed the Individual Championship of the National Trail Conference Cross Country Meet as he led the Bobcats to their second straight NTC team title. Cosart turned in Top 10 Regional and Sectional finishes to qualify for the State Cross Country Meet. In the Spring during track and field season, Cosart held down the distance events for the Bobcats and after finishing Top 3 in every individual race he ran, between 800 meters and 3200 meters, with the exception of the 1600m at the IHSA 1A State Track Meet where he placed 27th in what was very stiff competition, finishing with a season record time of 4:38.00, just a half second off of his personal record. In between the cross country and track, Cosart was a key member of the Bobcats basketball team that dealt with quite a bit of adversity with new players having to step up into big spots before CHBC’s toughest stretch of games for second half of the season.

Trevan Sidwell, South Central – After Sidwell stepped up into a larger role on the Cougars baseball team in his sophomore year, the pitcher and third basemen was a go to guy for South Central this year. In the Fall baseball season, Sidwell hit .300 and on the mound, went 3-1 with a 2.19 ERA after pitching in 10 games and starting four and had a very solid .948 fielding percentage with just three errors in 58 fielding chances. He carried that momentum over into the Spring season where he would hit .324 and led the tea in on base percentage. On the mound, Sidwell pitched in 17 games and started 6 as he was called upon to handle some big games against tough opponents, finishing with a 4.15 ERA for the 52.1 innings pitched. In the winter, Sidwell got valuable minutes on the Cougars basketball team coming off the bench and was counted on for his tough defense and ability to knock down big shots in the paint and on the perimeter.

Griffin Vaughn, CHBC – Vaughn took a big jump in his sophomore year across three sports for the Bobcats. In the Fall, Vaughn shaved considerable amount of time off his personal records and would help lead the Bobcats to their second consecutive National Trail Conference Cross Country Team Title and coming in Second individually being beat only by a teammate in the meet. Vaughn then stepped up into a big starting role for CHBC boys basketball after some unexpected turnover with the team was a key scorer for the Bobcats as a point guard and shooting guard. In the Spring, Vaughn would specialize in the 3200m Run, finishing Top 4 of all eight meets he ran it in including a third place finish at the IHSA 1A Sectional meet, coming up just one spot short of qualifying for State.

Trenten Monnet, SEB/BSE – On the basketball court, Monnet became a big man off the bench for the SEB Eagles and eld the team in blocks with 40 as compared to 41 blocks turned in by the rest of the team. Monnet then capped off his high school sports career with a huge senior year for Bombers Track and Field. Monnet went undefeated in the Discus through the regular season before taking first at the IHSA 1A Sectional finishing 29th at the IHSA State Track Meet. Monnet would take first place in 11 of 16 meets in the Shot Put, with his career beat throw coming at the IHSA 1A Sectional to claim the title and advance to the IHSA State Track Meet where he took 4th place. Monnet owns both the Discus and Shot Put records for BSE after setting and resetting his own record many times over the last two years. He will now move on to compete collegiately at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Hayden Summers, Altamont – Summers was dual sport athlete in the Fall for Altamont, competing as a member of the golf team while also serving as a captain for the Indians Soccer team. Summers finished the soccer season fourth on the team in goals and third on the team in assists. On the track, Summers specialized in the 300m Hurdles and the 4×400 relay and would take first in six of ten races with a second place finish, a fifth place finish and then taking fourth in the Prelims of the IHSA 1A State Track Meet and finishing in Sixth place in the4 Finals. He would also anchor the 4×400 relay team to six first place finishes in nine meets before they took second at the Sectional Meet and 19th place at the State Meet.

Andrew Casey, Vandalia – The Vandals sophomore was a multi-position player for Vandalia Football this past Fall. Casey would be called upon to take snaps from the quarterback position early in the season before sliding out to a wideout position. On the basketball court, Casey used his size on the boards and moving the ball in transition to average 8.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.7 steals a game for the Vandals. He was named Second Team All-Conference for the South Central Conference. The sophomore was a jack of all trades for the Vandals this Spring on the baseball field spending time on the infield, behind the plate and on the mound. At the plate, Casey led the Vandals with a .370 batting average and on the mound, Casey had a 4-2 record and 4.89 ERA. Casey was named Third Team All Conference as a Designated Hitter/Utility Player for the South Central Conference.

Maddox Robb, South Central – The senior catcher served as the field general for the Cougars for the last several years, manning the catchers position for the better part of his high school career. He showed his reliability behind the plate again this year with a .988 fielding percentage in the Fall and a .985 fielding percentage in the Spring. He hit .275 this Spring and finished the year with 29 RBI. During the winter, Robb stepped up on the Cougar’s basketball team mid-season, coming off the bench to play a big defensive role as the Cougars dealt with injury issues and were forced to shuffle their lineup and would continue to play key minutes off the bench in the last half of the season.
