Spring Coaches of the Year
Dustin Jackson, Vandalia Boys Track & Field – The first year high school track and field coach led the Vandals boys team to a very big year. The Vandals captured the South Central Conference title in early May and then went on to capture an IHSA 1A Sectional Championship in mid-May. The Vandals had several school records broken and qualified athletes for State in four individual and two relay events.
Alan Whitt, Altamont Baseball – The longtime coach led the Indians to a 17-10 Spring season and an overall record of 28-23 for the year between the Fall and Spring seasons as the Indians locked down another in a long line of winning seasons. The Spring season turned out to be the last for Whitt as an Indian as he announced his resignation following end of the season.
Curt Jones, South Central Baseball – The South Central Cougars won their fourth straight Regional Championship this Spring and finished the year overall at 28-19. Jones led South Central back after a tough stretch of games against big school opponents in April and the Cougars won five of seven games in late May before ending their season against the eventual State third place finisher Pawnee.
