It was shades of 2016 as the Vandals defeated the Greenville Comets in Overtime on Friday night at Mark Greer Field, 35 to 34.
The Vandals jumped out early with 3 Touchdowns in the 1st quarter to lead 21 to 0. Greenville would get two of those scores back in the 2nd quarter and the Vandals led 21 to 14 at halftime. After both teams went scoreless in the 3rd quarter and through the first 8 minutes of the first quarter, there would then be a flourish of scoring in the final 4:02 of regulation. The Comets scored to tie the game at 21. Then, the Vandals would score with 2:31 remaining to take a 28 to 21 lead. But, the Comets would then turn right around and score on a big play to tie it at 28 with just about 2 minutes to go.
The Vandals would get the opening score in OT on a TD pass from 8 yards out to make it 35 to 28. The Comets scored and then went for the 2 point conversion to try and win the game. But, a pass deflection by Ian Whitehead would seal the win for the Vandals, 35 to 34.
