Pro Wire Athlete of the Week

Our Pro Wire Athletes of the Week for June 7 are Altamont Boys Track seniors Ben Roedl and Hayden Summers, BSE Boys Track senior Trenten Monnet and Vandalia Boys Track junior Kohnor Depew and freshman Jackson Wimberly.

Altamont’s Roedl medaled in all three of his events at the IHSA 1A State Track Meet earning top 3 finishes across the board. In the Long Jump, Roedl took third and grabbed a second place finish in the High Jump before capping off his meet performance by becoming the Triple Jump State Champion with a new school record in the meet as well. Roedl’s performance helped he and teammate Hayden Summers get Altamont a 5th place as a team for the State Meet.

Altamont’s Summers became a first time state medalist, taking sixth place in the 300 Hurdles at the IHSA 1A State Meet. Summers won his preliminary heat handily with a PR time and despite hitting a hurdle that had been displaced in the Finals race, he dropped nearly another half second off his Finals time in the event for another PR to end his high school track career. His points in the event along with teammate Ben Roedl’s points helped Altamont finish in 5th place as a team in the meet.

BSE’s Monnet became a two-time state medalist after he took fourth place in the Shot Put at the IHSA 1A State Meet. Monnet stood in fourth place after the Prelims and held that spot through the Finals to take the fourth spot on the podium. This year’s Shot Put finish joins Monnet’s sixth place finish in the Discus from the 2024 State Meet.

Vandalia’s Depew stood in the top 10 of the 1A rankings in the 100m Dash and 200m Dash for a good portion of the season and then turned in an 8th place finish in the 100m Dash and a 6th place finish in the 200m Dash at the IHSA 1A State Track Meet. Depew won his 200m Prelims heat and took second in a very close heat race in the 100m Prelims to get himself to the Finals. Depew set a new school in the 200m Dash with his Finals time of 22.15 seconds.

Vandalia’s Wimberly became a first time IHSA State Track medalist in his freshman season, taking 8th place in the Pole Vault. Wimberly cleared 12’ 5.5” in the Finals, nearly matching his PR height of 12’ 6”. Wimberly is the third VCHS boys track athlete to medal at State in the Pole Vault and this year marks his fourth year in a row medaling in a State meet after he medaled all three years at IESA State in Jr. High as well.
