Vandalia freshman vaulter Jackson Wimberly ended a successful first year of high school track with an eighth place finish in the Pole Vault at the IHSA 1A State Track Finals on Saturday. After clearing the opening height of 11’ 5.75” on his second attempt, Wimberly easily cleared the next two heights on his first attempt. Wimberly then cleared 12’ 5.5” on his third attempt before going out at 12’ 9.5”. Wimberly becomes the third Vandalia High School boys track athlete to medal at State in the Pole Vault, joining former State Champion Curtis Gordon and Zane Steele. It also marks his fourth year in a row medaling in a State meet as he was a three-time medalist in junior high, taking seventh place in 2022 and first place in 2023 at the IESA 7-3A State Meet and then second last year the 8-3A State Meet.
