The South Central Cougars baseball team earned their third consecutive Regional Championship (fourth in five years, and 18th overall) by getting a 4-2 victory over NTC rival North Clay Cardinals. The Cougars wasted no time getting on the board after Colton Smith and Trevan Sidwell reached on walks, Evan Hoover ripped a double down the left field line to score Smith to give South Central a 1-0 lead. Chase Guerrettaz would then single to score Sidwell, and after a Maddox Robb walk, Zane Montes would hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-0 lead. The Cougars would round out the scoring when Luke Shumate singled to score Guerrettaz to give South Central a 4-0 lead. North Clay would score two runs in the second inning to make it a 4-2 game, but Callaway Smith would hold the Cardinals scoreless through the last five innings, to secure the Cougars with the 4-2 victory. South Central improves to 13-12 on the season. They will take on Pawnee in the Sectional Semifinals at Altamont on Wednesday at 6:30 PM.
