Mulberry Grove Suffers Heartbreaking Loss in Regional Semifinals


The Mulberry Grove Lady Aces suffered a heartbreaking walk-off loss to Pawnee, 8 to 7, in the semifinals of their own Mulberry Grove 1A Regional on Wednesday. The Aces got off to a quick start with a run in the top of the first inning with a RBI single from Taylor Stone for a 1-0 lead. Pawnee was able to get off to an even quicker start though with five runs in the bottom of the first to take a 5-1 lead over Mulberry Grove. The Aces got another RBI single in the second, coming from Lily Johnson to close the Pawnee lead to 5-2. In the top of third, a RBI groundout from Addie Lawrence and two RBIs off a fielding error by the Indians allowed Mulberry Grove to tie the game at 5-5. Pawnee scored one more run in the bottom of the third to regain the lead 6-5, but the Aces fought back scoring on a walk in the fourth to tie the game at 6-6. Stone then hit a home run to center field in the fifth to give the Aces the 7-6 lead. That lead held until the bottom of the seventh when Pawnee hit a one out, 2-run home run to walk it off and hand Mulberry Grove the 8-7 loss. The Lady Aces end the season with a record of 12-8.
